Bringing Joy to Children in Need: HMS NJHS Angel Tree Project
Every year during the holiday season, the Humphreys Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) embarks on a meaningful service project to bring joy to the lives of children in need. This year, they are excited to continue their tradition with the Angel Tree Project, a heartfelt effort to collect donated gifts for the young residents of the Jacob House Orphanage in Pyeongtaek.
The Angel Tree is adorned with special angels, each representing a child from the orphanage. A class, staff member, or student can select an angel from the tree. Each angel carries the birth year and gender of a child, along with a suggested toy or gift requested by the orphanage. The selector will then write their name next to the corresponding number and letter on the sheet next to the tree so that everyone will be getting a gift for the holidays.
"I just love how NJHS has the Angel Tree project each year,” said Ms. Cho, the Assistant Principal at Humphreys Middle. “It really gives our students the opportunity to give back."
Gifters will read the wish and use their creativity to bring joy to a child's holiday season. Gifts can include clothing based on the age and gender indicated on the angel as well. The gifts are returned unwrapped, and NJHS members will get together to wrap the gifts and deliver them.
“When I was wrapping the gifts, I thought of the kid who would be opening it, and it made me warm inside," said Jonathan Kim, a former NJHS member now in high school.
This project provides a wonderful opportunity for personal contributions or as a meaningful class activity to share the spirit of giving with others. The HMS community's generosity will make a significant difference in the lives of these young children, creating moments of happiness and warmth during the holiday season.
