CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea – Fifth grade students at Humphreys Middle School recently brought history to life through an extensive research project on influential people from the past. Over several weeks, students selected historical figures, conducted research using multiple sources, and learned how these individuals shaped the world through their leadership, creativity, courage, and/or determination. The project emphasized key skills such as note-taking, critical thinking, and organizing information, while also encouraging students to develop a deeper appreciation for history.

The culminating event, 5th Grade Showcase, “A Gallery of Greats,” invited parents and guardians to campus to experience the students’ hard work firsthand. The gym and cafeteria were transformed into gallery spaces, where students proudly presented as their historical figures, sharing biographical details, major accomplishments, and the lasting impact of their chosen person. Visitors were able to walk through the “gallery,” ask questions, and see the enthusiasm and confidence students demonstrated as historians and presenters.

The Showcase was a wonderful celebration of learning, highlighting not only students’ knowledge but also their growth in public speaking and communication skills. The event was well attended and reflected the strong partnership between home and school.

Humphreys Middle School is proud of our fifth graders for their dedication, creativity, and professionalism in making the Gallery of Greats a memorable success for all.
