Humphreys Middle School fifth graders enjoy nonfiction selections in the library
CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea – Fifth-grade students at Humphreys Middle School regularly participate in quiet, reflective library activities focused on exploring nonfiction books. During these sessions, students browse sections they don’t often visit, discover topics of personal interest, and enjoy reading in a calm and welcoming environment.
“I liked the activity we did in the library,” said student Jorja W. “It was a good way to explore the books in the nonfiction section.”
Students consistently share that these experiences help them find books they might not normally choose. From animals and airplanes to a wide variety of other nonfiction topics, students appreciate the organization of the library and find the time spent reading both relaxing and engaging. As “nonfiction bookshelf experts,” students practice navigating the nonfiction section with confidence and curiosity.
“I liked becoming a nonfiction bookshelf expert because I found nonfiction books I really like,” said Asher Y.
These ongoing library activities encourage independent reading and help students view the library as a place for discovery and learning. Many students look forward to each visit and continue to expand their interests by exploring new nonfiction books throughout the year.
