NJHS welcomes 24 new scholars at Humphreys Middle School induction ceremony
CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — Leadership, service, and academic excellence were on full display at Humphreys Middle School (HMS) on April 23, 2026, as the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) officially inducted 24 new members into its ranks.
The ceremony, a hallmark event for the HMS community, was overseen by NJHS Advisor Ms. Janieceal Bell. The evening celebrated the hard work and dedication of the middle school’s highest-achieving students, who were selected based on the five pillars of the NJHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.
The event was presided over by HMS student and NJHS President Daniella Cantey. During her address, Cantey encouraged the new inductees to view the honor not just as a reward for past achievements, but as a commitment to future service within the school and the surrounding community.
"Being a member of NJHS is about more than just keeping up your grades; it’s about having the character to lead when others won’t and the heart to serve your community," Cantey said during the candle-lighting ceremony.
The evening also featured a historic milestone for Humphreys Middle School. Attendees were treated to a performance by the school’s first-ever rock band, a new musical initiative led by Mr. Jaret Shank. The band’s energetic performance provided a modern flair to the traditional ceremony, showcasing the many talents and growing extracurricular opportunities available to HMS students.
The individual names of the 24 inductees share a common bond: a proven track record of academic success and community involvement. These students now join the ranks of the existing members to form a 63-student strong chapter dedicated to making a positive impact on Camp Humphreys.
