On Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, Humphreys Middle School wasn't just a place for classes – it transformed into a bustling hub of innovation for our annual STEAM Night!

The cafeteria and auditorium were electric with excitement as students, families, teachers, and community members all gathered for an evening dedicated to the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.

“STEAM Night is more than an event,” said Ms. Nunes, STEAM night organizer. “It’s a reminder of what’s possible when a community refuses to give up on curiosity. Even with the challenges we faced, seeing students, families, and teachers come together to build, create, and explore made every moment worth it.”

The cafeteria was filled with different stations and activities for students and families to participate in. There were many stations manned by Humphreys High School honor societies, teachers, and CTE HMS students. The room buzzed with activity, from creative stations like the Collage to Canvas Exhibit, Symmetry Pumpkin Painting, and Tissue Paper Marigolds to engineering challenges like the Pumpkin Patch Cup Stacking, Build a Scarecrow out of LEGOs, Pumpkin Catapult Challenge, and the Aluminum Boat Challenge. Students explored science with the Binary Code Fall Challenge, the Leaf Launch Lab, and the ever-popular Slime Table. Ms. Tremarco, HMS Principal, was busy at the butterfly station, helping elementary students create beautiful butterflies. Other popular stops included Math Combo Card Making, Candy Corn Bowling, Tangram Leaves, and the Candy Corn Estimation Jar, not to mention the high-tech Battlebots, the History of Transportation Exhibit, and the STEAM Book Exhibit. HMS PTSO also offered free popcorn and a fun prize vending machine with stickers and candies for attendees.

“It was great,” said Leilani Woodruf, 7th Grader. “:I did the pumpkin cup tower with Leah and Eileen, and it was extremely tall! The pumpkins from the pumpkin catapult were super cute! I made a marigold out of paper and made it into a ring. I got plenty of candy too!”

What truly made the evening special, however, was the spirit of community. It was more than just STEAM; it was about connection.

“I really enjoyed making slime with middle schoolers,” Katherine Kim, HHS Science National Honor Society Secretary said. “The event was packed with people, and our club really had a great time helping.”

This spirit of mentorship was seen everywhere, with parents and teachers learning side-by-side, and everyone sharing in the joy of discovery.

It was a powerful reminder of how exciting learning can be when we all come together. The night was a resounding success, sparking curiosity and perhaps even inspiring a few future engineers. A huge thank you to all the staff volunteers who organized the activities and to every family who came out to build, create, and explore with us. We can't wait for our next STEAM event at Humphreys High School.
