Humphreys Middle School and Neungdong Middle School: A Growing Global Partnership

CAMP HUMPHREYS, SOUTH KOREA – Humphreys Middle School (HMS) proudly welcomed 25 guests from Neungdong Middle School, its sister school located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, South Korea, for a vibrant day of cultural exchange on June 5, 2025. This visit marked the fifth exchange event of the 2024-2025 school year between the two schools.
The visiting students spent the day shadowing their American peers, fully immersing themselves in the daily rhythm of life at HMS. Many of the Korean students were especially excited to reconnect with friends they had met during a joint camp held in May. This visit offered a joyful reunion and a chance to deepen cross-cultural friendships.
The event saw seventh and eighth-grade students take on leadership roles as hosts. They guided their Korean buddies through classes, shared lunch, and offered a warm, firsthand look at a typical day at HMS. The entire school community contributed to a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, making the day a true celebration of global friendship and student leadership.
A meaningful addition to the day was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by the principals of both schools, Mr. Chad Struhs (Humphreys Middle School) and Mr. Youngki Kim (Neungdong Middle School). This formal agreement celebrates the success of past exchanges and sets the stage for active and ongoing collaboration. It outlines plans for future student visits, joint educational projects, and continued cultural engagement.Â
A heartfelt thanks to all HMS faculty and staff who helped make the event a success. A special thanks goes to the HMS administration, whose support and coordination were instrumental in making this opportunity possible. With the MOU now in place, both schools are excited to build on this momentum and provide students with even more opportunities for global learning, connection, and collaboration.
