Humphreys Middle School Honors Memorial Day with a Special Program
CAMP HUMPHREYS – More than 1,000 students and staff attended the Memorial Day event at Humphreys Middle School in South Korea on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
“The observance aimed to teach students the true meaning of Memorial Day,” said Mr. Michael Robinson, the school's Administrative Officer and event organizer.
Held in the school auditorium, the program featured various presentations. Eighth grade student Bailey Brock and sixth grade student Zach Killgren hosted the event. The Humphreys High School JROTC presented the flags, and the HMS band played the national anthems of Korea and the United States.
Sixth-grader Adalynn Balough explained the history of Memorial Day, followed by seventh-grader Kaya Sablan reading the poem "In Flanders Fields." The HMS Band also performed "Freedom Finale," which included "America the Beautiful," "Chester," “America (My Country 'Tis of Thee)," and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." The event concluded with eighth-grader Daniel Bush playing "Taps" and the Humphreys High School Color Guard retiring the colors.
